Long Hospital in Pineville, were held Sunday, July 6th, at 9 a.m. at the First Baptist Church with pastor, Rev. Finley W. Tinnin officiating. Interment took place at the Pinehill cemetery near Urania, and funeral arrangements were under the direction of Upshaw Funeral Home of Jena. Elbert was well known through-out LaSalle Parish having been born and reared in Jena, and for several years attended school at the Jena High School. He was married to Mis Twinkle Shadow also of Jena. Surviving are: Ellis Welch of Jena, brother; Mrs. Roy Cupples of Houston, Texas, sister; Mrs. Charlie Jones of Monroe, mother; Mrs. Twinkle Shadow Welch, of Jena, wife; Mrs. A. A. Davis and Mrs. Bob Owens of Jena, aunts; and Mr. Leslie Welch of Jena, uncle. ****************************************************************************** Davis Charged With Manslaughter In Welch Death Odel (Stinky) Davis, who has been held in the parish jail since Friday, was arraigned before Judge F. E. Jones Monday on a charge of manslaughter in connection with the fatal shooting of Elbert Welch at Whitehall shortly after 12 o'clock midnight, Thursday. Davis was released on a $3000 bond. The shooting occurred after an argument between Davis and Welch as reported by witnesses, at Whitehall, located about 8 miles east of Jena. The shot was said to have pierced the arm and entered the right side. Welch was conveyed to an Alexandria hospital where he died at 5:15 a.m. Friday.
