Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday in First United Pentecostal Church in Jena with Revs. Wayne Pounders, Crawford Coon and C. D. Thornton officiating. Burial followed in Belah Cemetery under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. Survivors include three sons, Curtis Webb of Jena, Billy Webb of Kountze, Texas, and Jessie Webb of Humble, Texas; five brothers, Eugene Robbins of Manifest and Marshall Robbins, Arthur Robbins, Lee Robbins and Walter Robbins, all of Jena; one sister, Rita Tylka of Odessa, Texas; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Brandon Joy and Paula Michelle Webb, both of Jena. Date: October 19, 2005; Page 10A Headline: James Webb James Webb, 70, of Kilgore, Texas and a former resident of Jena, died Tuesday, October 11, 2005, in Tyler, Texas, following an extensive battle with cancer. He was born February 5, 1935, in Edgecomb County, North Carolina, and graduated from Edgecomb County High School. James retired as a Technical Sergeant from the United States Air Force, serving his country from 1954 to 1974, including the Vietnam Conflict. He was a commercial airline pilot before retiring as a safety inspector for the FAA. After his retirement, he and his wife, Babs, lived in several areas and several years ago, settled in Jena where he flew airplanes for local oil companies. As a pilot, Webb had over 14,000 hours of flying experience. The couple relocated in Kilgore, Texas, in 2001. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed working in his yard. James greatly loved the Lord and was a member of the Forest Home Baptist Church. While living in Jena, the Webbs were members of Midway Baptist Church of Midway. Serviices were held at 9:30 a.m., Friday October 14, at the Forest Home Baptist CHurch in Kilgore with Rev. Earl W. "buddy" Duggins, officiating. Soloist was mark Fried and pianist was Phyllis Latham. Interment was at 1 p.m., Friday, at the Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery with full military honors by an Honor Gurad. Burial was under direction of Rader Funeral Home of Kilgore. Survivors include his wife, Babs Webb of Kilgore; two daughters, Robin Mullen and husband Jim, and Melissa Parry and husband, John, all of Richardson, Texas; three grandchildren, Brittney Perry, Daniel Lutrell and Max Perry, all of Richardson; one sister, Rosalind Williams of Pine Tops, North Carolina; three brothers, Milton Webb of Pine Tops, Rudy Webb of Wilmington, N. C> and Douglas Webb of Pine Tops; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Jonathan Latham, James Robinson, Many Almanza, Scott McKinney, Tommy Gooch, and Roger Ralson. Date: June 2, 1966 Headline: Rites for Sister of J. H. Barndige Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie Welch, 83, of Lecompte, were held recently in the First Baptist Church, Lecompte. Mrs. Welch was the sister of Joseph Hortone Barndige, a native of Jena. She had been a resident of Lecompte and Rapides Parish for 53 years and was a member of the First Baptist Church. The widow of C. P. Welch, she spent her last months in an Alexandria nursing home. Burial was in Welch Episcopal Cemetery. She is survived by two daughters, Millie L. Welch Benedict and Bonnie W. Mertens, both of Alexandria; a brother, Joseph Horton Barndige of Jena; three grandchildren, Jane Mertens and Jack Mertens of Alexandria, and Harry Pannell of Shreveport; and three great-grandchildren. ========== --------------- WELCH, Roy, Jr. --------------- Submitted by Kim Wise Submitted:August 27, 2004 Source: Riser Funeral Home Date: October 1, 2003 Services for Roy Welch, Jr., age 77, of Olla will be held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, October l, 2003 from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Olla with Rev.Denver McBroom officiating. Mr. Welch was born in Rochelle on November 18, 1925 to the union of Roy, Sr. and Bertie Baldridge Welch and died Tuesday, September 29, 2003 at the Hardtner Medical Center in Urania. He was a retired bulk plant manager for Wilson Oil Co. in Olla. In the past, he was a driller for Penrod Drilling Co., a Gulf trans- port truck driver and also worked for Henderson Oil Co., He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army in the 1st. Calvary Division, 8th Regime and a member of the Charles F. Buck # 260 Masonic Lodge of Urania. Survivors include his wife of 54 years: Peggy Powell Welch, his daugher: Phyllis Faye Welch, his grandchildren: Cassie Taylor Martin and her husband: Brandon, and Colby James Taylor, his great-grandson: Brandon Slade Martin all of Olla, his sisters: Christine Welch of Monroe and Christella Poisso and her husband: Nat of Tullos and a host of nieces and nephews. She was a homemaker and member of the Grayson Baptist Church. She was very active in school activities at the Columbia Elementary School. Services were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the chapel of Golden Funeral Home in Bastrop. Interment followed in the Bonita Road Baptist Church Cemetery under direction of Golden Funeral Home.
