John J. Young Rev. John J. Young, 69, of Bonita, a retired Southern Baptist minister, died at the Morehouse General Hospital in Bastrop on June 19, 1985. He was a lifetime resident of Olla, LaSalle and Caldwell parishes. He was a licensed and ordained minister. He pastored churches for 26 years, including Good Pine, Pine Hill, Beech Creek, Pleasant Hill, Kelly, Holum, Springhill, Clarks, Magnolia and also in Arizona. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Olla. Rev. Joey Bignar and Rev. Ronald Mitchell officiated at memorial services held. He was presented a bronze plaque from Southern Baptist Convention in appreciation of his faithful and fruitful service as a called servant of God in Kingdom Ministeries. He was a member of Bonita Baptist Church, Bonita. He was a Master Mason of The Grand Lodge of the State of LA, F. & A.m. 303. He was also a member of the White Lily Chapter 129 Order of Eastern Star, Clarks. He was a member of 26 years of Brotherhood of Railway Signalmen of America. He received a medal of commendation for Good and Faithful service for MO-PAC Railroad Company. He is survived by his wife, Mary Helen Powell Young of Bonita. He was the father of nine children: Helen Jackson of North Carolina; Jessie Young of Bonita; Laverne Roberson of Collins, MO; Vivian Townley of Fort Smith, Ark.; Delores McAdams of Port Sulphur; Jack Young of Opelousas; Mary Ann Warner of Ruston; Jhnnie Faye Boutwell of Start; and Sharron Mitchell of Granola, Miss. He has two brothers, Bill and Spencer Young of Aimwell; 2 sisters, Eva Cotton of Aimwell and Ruby Netherland of Jena and a host of nieces and nephews, 30 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
