Source: Monroe, La. newspaper - 1927 Young Funeral at City Church this Afternoon - Former Well Known Monroe Resident to be Buried Today - The wide circle of friends in the Twin Cities of James H. Young, age 74 years were shocked and grieved to learn of his death in St. Louis on Thursday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E.A. Porter. The body arrived in Monroe over the Missouri Pacific this morning and at once was taken to the Peters Funeral Chapel where it lay in state for several hours. The chapel was visited by many friends and acquaintances. Mr. Young was a resident of Monroe for the greater part of his life, coming at an early age to this city from Mississippi. He was married here and made his home for years at 408 Calypso street. He was engaged in the insurance business and was a man of friendly nature and made a very large circle of friends. He was maried here many years ago. Two children were born, one dying in infancy. The other is today Mrs. E.A. Porter, who was for years a resident of Monroe, but who has for the past three years lived in St. Louis where her husband is district store-keeper for the Missouri Pacific Railroad. When the Porters removed to St. Louis, Mr. Young went to make his home with them. during his residence in Monroe, Mr. Young was active in the Western Star Lodge No. 24,F.& A.M. members of which today have charge of the services at the grave. A brother of Mr. Young, Richard Young, was for years Clerk of Court of this parish. A nephew, Colonel R.A. Young, was superintendent of Police in this city, and met his death through accidental electrocution in December, 1924. Surviving are the only daughter, Mrs. Porter of St. Louis and a brother, John Young who lives at Utility, La. and who is now 90 years of age. Other relatives in this section are: Mrs. J.G. Bell, a niece; Mrs. D.Y. Chenault and Mrs. M.E. Hawks, both of Gilbert, La., nieces and Mrs. H.T. Layne of this city, a cousin. Among the relatives living at a distance is Mrs. W.W. Sebral of Norfolk, Va., sister of the late Col. R.A. Young, Jr. (Note: James Henry Young was born in Catahoula Parish, La. on April 26, 1853, the son of Absalom Young and Eliza Stone Harvey - he died February 5, 1927 in St. Louis, Missouri and is buried in the downtown cemetery in Monroe, La.)
