David's full name is proven in the records of his son, who is listed as "David Asberry Colvin, Jr." David Sr. was born about 1810, probably in Chester County, South Carolina. He was the son of Edward & Sarah (PRATT) Colvin, and the grandson of John & Hannah (PRICE) Colvin, Sr., and John PRATT - all of Chester County, SC. David is believed to have had one known sibling, Mary COLVIN, who married before 1825 to David MALONE (b. SC). Prior to 1850, David's family moved from SC into Georgia. Some records indicate they resided in Harris County, GA. David's uncle, Leonard Marshall Pratt, also resided in Harris County prior to 1850. Circa 1836 and probably in SC or Georgia, David married Jane Walker HARDEN. Jane was born January 15, 1814, in Chester Co., SC, and was the daughter of Robert Walker HARDEN. Her mother was allegedly Priscilla GRESHAM, dau. of Mr. Major GRESHAM and Fannie FRANKLIN. Jane's father was the son of George & Jane (WALKER) HARDEN. All were from Chester County. It has been said that David's parents moved from GA into Lincoln Parish prior to 1850. David and Jane also settled near Vienna, a farming community a few miles north of Ruston. Together, they raised seven children, and also some grandchildren. 1. Nancy Ella COLVIN, b. November 6, 1837, d. December 24, 1870, buried Vienna Cemetery, Vienna, LA.
