James M. Wright, whose postoffice address is Vienna, Lincoln parish, La., was born in Alabama, a son of James It. Wright, who was a native of South Carolina, born in 1817. He was reared and educated a planter; emigrated from South Carolina to Alabama in 1846; was a member of the Masonic fraternity and a lifelong democrat, also a member of the Methodist church. He was a great religious worker, and was deacon of his church at the time of his death. He married Miss Margaret Lawrence in 1848 and became the father of six children: J. M., Carolina, Musadora, Catherine, Stephen, and Isaac De Kalb (who died in infancy). The father of our subject died in Alabama, February 18, 1866, and his mother is still living in that state. J. M. Wright was reared and received his early education in Alabama, and removed from that state to Louisiana, in 1873, locating near Vienna, where he has been quite successful in planting, in which he has engaged extensively, during his entire active career, and carries on an important mercantile business in connection with his agricultural interests. His plantation is located five miles northwest of Vienna on Big Creek, and consists of 600 acres. His principal crops are cotton and corn. In 1876 Mr. Wright married Miss Mattie Greene, a native of Vienna, La., and a daughter of Col. Allen Greene. The record of the births of Mr. Wright's family is as follows: J. M. Wright, November 13, 1850; Mattie L. (his wife), October 17, 1854. Their children: Edwin Allen, October 21, 1877; Arvizena, November 5, 1879; Beulah, January 8, 1881; Ella Dorene, October 16, 1883; James Monroe, January 25, 1886; Martha L., September 24, 1888. A twin brother of Ella Dorene, born on October 16, 1883; died on the 31st of the same month. Mr. Wright ranks among the prominent citizens of Lincoln parish, and is quite influential in local politics. He espouses the cause of the democratic party, and has always been solicitious that the county and state offices should be filled with good and worthy men. In all respects he is a leading and useful citizen, and has always aided to the extent of his ability every movement having for its aim the benefit of the public at large.
