Thomas Jefferson Rodgers was born May 28,1857 in Louisiana and he married Victoria Josephine Wilson on November 17, 1880 in Lincoln Parish.....He was the 13th child of William Rodgers and Mary Hopkins of Jefferson Co ALabama..... She was the daughter of John (James W) Wilson and Marion (Mary Ann Strange) of Alabama.... RODGERS/ ROGERS FAMILY: My Rodgers came from Jefferson CO Alabama....But on an 1850 census it was spelled Rogers and had been spelled that way most of the time...My g-grandfather Thomas insisted that it was always suppose to be spelled RODGERS....We don’t know if that was just his own idea or if it was really correct.....So I have have the same family, but the name Rodgers often spelled Rogers....So if you see it spelled different in my notes it is because that is how I found it recorded...... 1850 Census of Jefferson CO Alabama ROGERS William ......born abr 1805,,,,,,,,in Tennessee Mary.........born abt 1818/1820..in Alabama (she was a Hopkins and her father was Isaac Hopkins) She may have been his second wife, unless she married him at age 14.....It is possible that she may have indeed married him at 14, because of the 1840 census matches her age .... Marquis L ...born 1834 (there was a Marquis Rodgers in 1880 living in Richland Parish but not sure if he is the same man) Christopher Columbus...born 1836 (nick name may have been LUM) Napoleon B ...born 1838 Nancy Ann Rogers..born 1840 *(she may have been the Nancy Ann that married Daniel M McMurray in Jefferson/Franklin Co Alabama and later moved to Erath Co Texas) George W ....born 1842 (It is possible that he is the George Rogers on the 1880 Claiborne census and is married to a Frances and children Mary, Luella, Maggie, and Minnie....) John .....born 1844 (It is possible he is the John on the 1880 Claiborne census and is married to Purcy and children are James, Bessie, Eddie and Victor) Margaret born 1846....was a twin but must have died early as no one in the family remembers her Joseph E ...born 1846 (He is the same Joseph Rogers on the 1880 census in Claiborne with mother Mary and sister Catherine) He was a civil war vet and suffered from Brights disease ,....He never married .. Valera C ....born 1848 Lottie ....born 1851.........Never married (1900 Claiborne census with brother Joseph) Catherine (Kate) born 1852,,,,,,,(married Henry Wilson and he was a cousin of my g-grandmother Victoria Wilson) (but I wonder if she was really Valera and dates on census are incorrect) It is possible that the family moved after the birth of Catherine to Louisiana, because the last 2 boys were born in Louisiana..... James K Rodgers, born 1854 and on the 1880 census on Lincoln Parish with Wife Margaret (Burgess)and child William....I have seen posted that when Margaret passed away he married her sister Amanda ....The Burgess family on the 1880 census are living next door to James.....from other notes there were other children of Maggie, Marcus, John, Gabrella, May and Nolan.....see Lincoln Parish queries of 1997) Thomas Jefferson....born May 28 1857 and died Aug 27 1931 in Winn Parish ,,,(He is listed on the 1880 census living with his brother James ...He married Victoria J Wilson and they lived in Lincoln Parish for a few years...He was a farmer and later moved to Jackson Parish ...1900 census in Jackson Parish list. He was a farmer and had a restaurant either in Hodge or Jonesboro......It burned to the ground sometime before 1910..... Thomas and Victoria children were: Ola born Aug 1881 and died Aug 1900 (she was deaf but died from the flu, she was selling peanuts in the rain and got sick....and so the story goes is that her father never forgave himself for her death) James David born Sept 10.1886 and died Feb 22 1964 in Washington St..(He joined the Navy and married Jennie and they had two children James and Mary Louise...They lived in Castle Rock Washington..) Bertha Annie ....born Aug 4 1889 and died Feb 22 1970 (She married Henry I Shaw and they lived in Winnfield, Louisiana, Children were Edna Mae, Thomas Julian, Conley Lee, Henry Wayne, Christeen Evelyn, and Avis Mavon) Crowley Thomas born 1892 married Alice Dener Victoria born Dec 11 1896 married Emmett Love Etta Mae born Nov 6 1901 and died Sept 7 1906 Because of the death of Ola and loosing the restaurant, Thomas was sadden and depressed so he moved the family to Winn Parish and their they lived out their lives as farmers.
