Bartlett Birth Date/Place: 03/05/1823; Wilkinson Co., near Woodville, MS Marriage Date/Place: Barnett House, Vienna, Jackson Parish; 09/05/1865 Other Marriages: None Military Service: 2nd La Infantry---enlisted 05/11/1861. Inducted into Confederate service after training at Camp Moore. Served in Co."K', but this organization had several different names. Reached rank of 4th Sgt in Sept. 1862. At Battle of Chancellorsville (VA), William was wounded in calf of leg between 04/03 - 04/06/1863. At Battle of Gettysburg (PA), he received a wound of a minie' ball in the left hip, was captured on 4 July 1863, and sent to De Camp General Hospital, David's Island, NY (Harbor). After being paroled, William rejoined his unit at City Point, VA in August, 1863. His name is found on the Register of the Episcopal Church Hospital, Williamsburg, VA, from August 28, 1863 to September 9, 1863. He received an allowance of Confederate clothing on September 10, 1863 and states (Application of Pension) that he was unable to perform duty and was detailed to the end of the war in 1865. There is conflicting information in the Official Records of the Company (NARA), which claims that in 1864, W. W. Bartlett deserted (Oct. 20th, 1863 in Jackson Parish, LA. In his "Application for a Pension", Mr. Bartlett stated that he was with the army til the close of the war and was at Danville, VA at the time of Gen. Lee's surrender.
