D. McCollum, Clerk of the District Court, within and for said Parish and State, Mrs. Mary A. Gaines, aged 78 years, a resident of the ________ of _________, Parish of Lincoln and State of Louisiana, who being duly sworn according to law, declares she is the widow of Henry Franklin Gaines who entered the service of the Confederate States during the civil war under the name of Henry Franklin Gaines at _________ on the _______ day of 1862, in Company "G," 3rd Ala Regt. from the State of Alabama that he served honorably until end of war at __________ on the ________; and that he remained true to the Confederate States, until the surrender, at which time he was in __________ , as ___________; that she was married to the said soldier under the name of Mary A. Pesnell on the 28th day of February 1867, by J. R. Northcutt, Minister at Bell's Mill, Ala; that she has not married again, and that she is now in indigent circumstances and unable to earn a livelihood by her own labor or skill; that she is not married or otherwise provided for by the State of Louisiana or by any other State or Government; that her said husband died on the 22nd day of October 1904, at Ruston, Louisiana; that she has resided in the State of Louisiana for 34 years next preceding the date of this application, and that she claims the aid and benefit of Article 303 of the Constitution of 1898 and subsequent Acts of the Legislature thereunder, as is further shown by her answers to the following questions, which she swears to be true and correct: 1. Cav., C.S.A., Enlisted Sept. 4, 1862, at Jacksonville, Ala., and was mustered in Sept. 24, 1862, at Camp Floyd Bush, and on muster roll Oct. 30 to Dec. 31, 1863, (last on file), is shown, Absent at home on detached service by order of Gen. Martin. Prisoner of War records show him, paroled May 23, 1865, at Talledega. Robert C. Pesnell about the year 1867, which parties later move to the State of Louisiana. That the said Henry Franklin Gaines served in the Confederate Army, which service is as follows: Co. G, Third Alabama Regiment. Mustered into service at Jacksonville, Alabama, in 1862, and was in the war until the surrender. That the Officers of his command were as follows: Captain Pete Forney; First Lieutenant, Jesse Mohon; Second Lieutenant, Oliver Stewart; Third Lieutenant, Bill Jones. Never deserted. Affiant further states that he is 78 years of age and served in the Confederate Army from December, 1862, until the surrender. sworn to and subscribed before me, this 9th day of October 1922 W. L.
