A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at 10:00 am at Broadmoor United Methodist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Ken Irby and Rev. Kathy Wafer of Broadmoor United Methodist Church. Mrs. Barr was born Sept. 11, 1926 to Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Stamps. She was a proud Texan and claimed the entire state as her native home - never wanting to favor one city over the other of the many Texas locales in which she resided. She attended Louisiana Tech University in Ruston and received a degree in Chemistry/Medical Technology being one of the few females in the field at the time. While attending college, she attended a dance at the Wesley Foundation where she met her future husband, Fred Barr. After she and Fred married, they made their home in Ruston, LA, for the next 40 years where she raised three children and began her very active life in the Methodist church. Mrs. Barr became a widow after 46 wonderful years of marriage and moved to Shreveport where she spent the last 20 years of her life continuing to be active in the Methodist church. She was an active member of both the United Methodist Women organization and Church Women United for many years, holding office at the local, district, and state level. Mrs. Barr was preceded in death by her parents Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Stamps and her loving husband Fred Barr. She is survived by her sister Caroline Stamps, her son David Barr and wife Audry Barr, her daughter Mary Anne Barr, her son J.P. Barr, and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The family would like to express their thanks and sincere appreciation to the wonderful staff at Springlake Guest Care, the thoughtful and kind staff of Gamble Hospice Care at Springlake, Dr. Teagle and his wonderful staff, and a special thanks to Lisa Gellegos, hair stylist extraordinaire at the Gallery Hair Studio for making house calls and keeping our "Mommo" beautiful when she could no longer travel to the salon. In lieu of flowers the family requests donation be made to Broadmoor United Methodist Church or the Mary Margaret Barr Memorial Seminary Education Fund at Community Bank of Louisiana.
