The News-Star - March 1951 ATLEE BASS IS KILLED IN CRASH Car Turns Turtle Near Wisner; Two Others Escape Injury born September 29, 1913 - died March 21, 1951 Instant death claimed the life of Atlee Bass, 37, of Wallace Ridge, when in driving down Roach Lane, three miles south of Wisner, Sunday at 5:30 p.m. with two others in the car, he made too quick a turn at a high rate of speed and the machine turned turtle. The two others in the car escaped injury, but Bass was instantly crushed to death. Dr. L. F. Robinson, coroner of Franklin Parish and state police who investigated the accident made report that death resulted from a broken lower jaw, broken neck and a crushed skull. The funeral will be held in the Harrisonburg Baptist Church, Tuesday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Doughty of Wallace Ridge officiating. Interment will be in the cemetery in Harrisonburg under the direction of First National Funeral Home of Winnsboro. Survivors include his wife: Mrs. Eunice Bass, living in the family hone in Wallace Ridge; four sons: Richard Bass, Robert Bass, Tony Bass and Dennis Wayne Bass and one daughter: Linda Bass; his parents Mr. & Mrs. Eli Bass of Harrisonburg, two brothers: Roy Bass and Surville Bass, both of Harrisonburg; three sisters: Mrs. Maudell Finley of Jonesville, Mrs. Lucy M. Skinner of Oak Grove, and Mrs. Lois Smith of West Monroe. The body will remain at the home of Surville Bass until time for the funeral.
