The Ruston Daily Leader - November 9, 1942 MRS. S. L. BROADWELL nee EFFIE HINTON Mrs. S. L. Broadwell lifelong resident of Ruston and Lincoln Parish passed away last evening at 7:30 at Ruston Lincoln Sanitarium after an illness of several months. Ruston people will deeply feel the passing of this lovely citizen who has been a good friend and neighbor. Since childhood she has been a devoted member of the Methodist Church and since coming to Ruston 25 years ago has been an active worker in all departments at Trinity Methodist Church. Mrs. Broadwell is the former Miss Effie Hinton born in Lincoln Parish on August 11, 1870. She was married to Stewart L. Broadwell 54 years ago on September 9, 1888. For a number of years they have made their home on the old Broadwell estate about 10 miles South of Ruston. To This Union five daughters and three sons were born. A son: Clyde Broadwell and two daughters: Neva Broadwell and Mattie Lee Broadwell preceded her in death. Funeral services were conducted this afternoon at 4 p.m. from the Trinity Methodist Church. Burial was in Wesley Chapel Cemetery in the family burial site with Dr. Guy M. Hicks officiating. Kilpatrick was in charge of the services. Survivors include three daughters: Mrs. Y. B. Olive of Jackson, La., Mrs. F. H. James of Donaldsonville, La., Mrs. Fulton Doss of Ruston, La.; two sons: Harold W. Broadwell of Houston, Tx., and J. Lambert Broadwell of Alexandria, La.; three sisters: Mrs. J. R. Kavanaugh, Mrs. Pearl Kavanaugh and Mrs. Jessie Grigsby, all of Clay; two brothers: L. M. Hinton of Ruston, La., and Frank A. Hinton of Clay, La.; and thirteen grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Raymond Doss, Lynwood Doss, Shelby Doss, James Broadwell, all grandsons; and Clyde Taylor and Morton Kavanaugh. ************
