Chambless Services for Shelby R. Chambless, 89, of Carthage, Texas, were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2000, in the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating was Dr. David Uth and Bro. Dennis Rivers. Interment was in Restland Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Mr. Chambless died March 18, 2000, in Longview, Texas. Mr. Shelby R. Chambless was born October 30,1910, in Ruston, to Marion Christopher and Rhoda Liner Chambless. Shelby attended both the University of Oklahoma and Louisiana Tech University. He married Avis Pauline Brillhart, March 30, 1939, and together they celebrated over 60 years of marriage. Shelby worked in Oil Tool Sales for Hughes Tool Co. retiring as the Manager of International Sales for the Western Hemisphere. He served as a Mason in the 32nd Degree and Shriner in the Sharon Temple. Mr. Chambless was a member of the Central Baptist Church in Carthage. He loved a game of golf and spending time in the garden. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel Jones and Beatrice, and a brother, Grayson Chambless. Survivors include his devoted wife, Pauline Chambless of Carthage; one son, Chris Chambless and wife Beth of Houston; two daughters, Becky Wattleworth and husband Bob of Canton, Mich., and Susan Kay Chambless of Carthage; two sisters, Bernice Woods of Monroe, and Agnes Miller of St. Joseph; one grandson, Kent Christopher Wattleworth of Canton, Mich.; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
