Burial was in the Douglas Methodist Cemetery near Ruston. David was a tall, handsome young man with blond hair. Following is the Death Notice that appeared in the New Orleans Christian Advocate on August 30, 1894. RINEHART - Our dear Bro. and Sister S. D. Rinehart, of Douglas, La., received a terrible shock in the sudden and tragic death of their second son, DAVID. He had for some months been employed by Mr. Fisher of Clarence, La., seven miles east of Natchitoches, on Red River. At the time he was engaged in getting some timber in the swamp when he was terribly crushed by a falling tree. The skull was broken and his right side terribly crushed, yet he lived seven hours after the accident. He was brought home yesterday on the train and buried in the cemetery at Douglas. A large congregation of relatives and friends attended his funeral. DAVID SUMPTER RINEHART was born in Edgefield County, South Carolina on December 2, 1870. He made a profession of religion and joined the Methodist Episcopal Church South, at about thirteen years of age. His death occurred at Clarence, LA., August 7, 1894. David was a young man of noble character. He was universally loved in the community where he was raised, as well-as in the community where he met his sad and untimely death. His employer said to this writer: "He was the most trustworthy young man I ever had in my employ." He was cut off in the prime of young manhood. May his young friends take heed to this lesson! God bless and sustain the bereaved family! Jno A. Miller. Ruston, La., August 10, 1894..
