R. Goodjoin, 90, Succumbs To Heart Attack; Was One Of Last Two Veterans E. R. GOODJOIN, 90, one of Lincoln parish's last two remaining veterans of the War Between the States, died at his home on the Farmerville Highway early today following a heart attack. Mr. Goodjoin had been in fair health despite his advanced age, prior to the stroke, it was said. Funeral services will be conducted from the Douglas Church, Saturday morning at 10 o'clock, with Rev. S. F. McFadden, pastor of the Ruston Presbyterian Church, and Rev. R. W. Vaughn, superintendent at the Louisiana Methodist Orphanage, officiating. Interment will be in the Douglas Cemetery under the direction of McLure Funeral Parlors. Mr. Goodjoin was one of the first settlers in Lincoln parish, coming here shortly after the conclusion of the Civil War. The Veterans ranks were cut to himself and "Uncle Alf" Fuller, late in 1936 by the death of W. J. Strickland at Choudrant, who with the other two survivors of the four year struggle between the states, had come to Lincoln parish following the war. Mr. Goodjoin is survived by his widow, who is now said to be seriously ill at the home; four sons, Charles, in Texas; Willis and Spencer, Ruston; and Elton, in Oklahoma; and two grandchildren: J. E. Goodjoin and Mary Elizabeth Goodjoin, both of Ruston. The Ruston Leader, Saturday, April 24, 1937 Civil War Vet Funeral Held at Douglas Church E. R. Goodjoin Laid To Rest in Family Cemetery; was one of Last Veterans. Funeral services for E. R. Goodjoin, 90, Civil War veteran, who died at his home on the Farmerville Highway Friday morning were conducted from the Douglas Church this morning at 10 o'clock with the Rev. with Rev. S. E. McFadden, officiating, assisted by Rev. R. W. Vaughn, superintendent at the Louisiana Methodist Orphanage. Interment was in the Douglas Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Parlors. Pallbearers were J. E. Goodjoin, Jack Goodjoin, Grady Goodjoin, Frank Goodjoin, Van Chandler, and Ernest Goodjoin. Honorary pallbearers were Sheriff J. Bryan Thigpen, John Body, Bob McCrary, Will Roan, Ethelbert Burgess, Dr. D. S. Calhoun, and Floyd Rinehart. Mr. Goodjoin was one of Lincoln parish's last two remaining veterans of the War Between the Sates, and had resided in this community since shortly after the close of the war. He is survived by Mrs. Goodjoin, who is now said to be seriously ill at her home, and several sons and grandchildren.
