Services are under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. Coach Hinton died Saturday, January 22, 2000, in Arcadia after a lengthy illness. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, and was a Retired Assistant Dean and Baseball Coach at Louisiana Tech for 34 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Agnes Hinton. Survivors include two sons, Richard B. "Dickey" Hinton and wife Alice Marie of Ruston and Bobby Brown Hinton and wife Renn of Pensacola, Fla.; one daughter, Betty Carolyn Martensen of Arlington, Texas; one brother, Don Hinton of Minden; eleven grandchildren, Bill Hinton and wife Janice, Curt Hinton, Mike Hinton, Darcee Hinton, Kip Hinton, Ty Hinton, Ashley Hinton, Coree Hinton, Todd Martensen and wife Shari, Blake Martensen and wife Dorsey, Kimi Martensen; and three great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 9 until 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Louisiana Tech Alumni Fund or to the American Cancer Fund.
