He was 74 years old and a native of Lincoln Parish. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 18, 1988 in Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Christ H. Andrews officiating. Services are under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home after 5 p.m. on Wednesday and after 10 a.m. on Thursday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Ruston. J. B. Holstead was the grandson of the late Judge John B. Holstead and the son of the late Clyde B. and Gertrude Randall Holstead of Ruston. He was married first to Maurice Cook Holstead who died in 1978. He was a retired independent petroleum landman and was an employee of Sun Oil Company for many years. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the American Association of Petroleum Landmen. He is survived by his wife, Mary Belle Taylor Kirkland Holstead; a son, John B. Holstead III of Houston, Texas; a daughter, Carol H. VanHook of Fort Worth, Texas; Mrs. Holstead's daughter, Mary Belle Tuten of Ruston; Mrs. Holstead's son Neil S. Kirkland of Ruston; and nine grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Rand Holstead, Scott Holstead, Will Holstead, John VanHook, and Robert Neil Kirkland, grandsons, and Harry Cook, Jr. John T. Richardson, Jr., and Charles L. Tannehill. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association.
