MORTON JOHN KAVANAUGH, JR Services for Mr. Morton John Kavanaugh, Jr. will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 30, 1992 at St. Thomas Catholic Church with Father Bob Sieg officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Ruston under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home. Mr. Kavanaugh was a lifelong resident of Ruston and died on January 29, 1992 at Lincoln General Hospital in Ruston after a lengthy illness. He was an insurance broker and a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church where he was a past member of the Parish Council. Mr. Kavanaugh founded Kavanaugh Motor Freight and served as its president for many years. He was active in national trucking activities, serving as President and Chairman of the Board of a conference of the American Trucking Association. A Veteran of the Korean War, he served as a paratrooper with the 508th R.C.T. He was one of the founders of the Ruston Dixie Baseball program, serving as its president for two years and a coach for ten years. Mr. Kavanaugh is survived by his wife, Cynthia, three sons; John Kavanaugh of Bossier City; Mark Kavanaugh and his wife, Nancy Kavanaugh of Shreveport; and Kevin Kavanaugh and his wife, Liz Kavanaugh of Ruston; three daughters, Lynn K. Johnson of Springdale, Arkansas; Lisa K. Rose and husband Richard Rose of Bakersfield, California; and Kelly K. Echols and husband, Dr. Kyle Echols of New Orleans, Louisiana. He is also survived by his mother, Elizabeth B. Kavanaugh of Ruston and by 22 grandchildren. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Johnny Kavanaugh, Scott Kavanaugh, John Johnson, R. E. Phillips, Francis Kavanaugh, Al Tolbert and Bob Aillett. There will be a Vigil service at 6 p.m. tonight and visitation will follow.
