Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Ruston under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston. He died at his home in Ruston on Thursday, January 22, 2008, after a long illness. Visitation for Mr. Levasseur will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, January 25, 2008, at the Burkhalter Chapel of Trinity United Methodist Church. Mr. Levasseur, known as “F. O.”, was born to Mary McKeithen LeVasseur and Felix Alexander LeVasseur on March 31, 1920, in Moss Point, Mississippi. He was predeceased by his parents and sister Vivian Lingo of Victoria, Texas, and three brothers Archibald LeVasseur of Sulphur, Louisiana, and Louis LeVasseur and Kellie LeVasseur of Pensacola, Florida. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Georgia, of Ruston, two daughters, Judy Cassibry and husband Reg of Shreveport and Janey Hockenhull and husband Bob of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, three grandchildren, Amanda Leigh Moreau of New York, New York, Raymond Andrew Moreau of Charleston, South Carolina, and Lt. Matthew LeVasseur Berry of Great Falls, Montana, He was reared in Grayson, Louisiana, and was graduated from Louisiana State University with Bachelor and Master’s degrees in Agriculture. Mr. Levasseur proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. After World War II, his career spanned thirty eight years in the in the Louisiana Agricultural Extension Service. Mr. Levasseur was a fifty six year member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Ruston, serving the Church in many capacities. Trinity Church was a great love and focal point of his life. He was member of the Rotary Club for over sixty years, and was past President of the Ruston Rotary Club. He served the community as a volunteer for many charitable and service organizations, including the Louisiana Peach Festival, Louisiana Methodist Children’s Home, 4H Clubs, The Salvation Army, and Habitat For Humanity. He quietly worked for those less fortunate by sharing the fruits of his large and prolific garden and seeking employment opportunities for disadvantaged persons. In the 1960’s he was instrumental in improving utility service for rural areas of Lincoln Parish. Mr. Levasseur was an avid supporter of Louisiana Tech and L.S.U. athletics.
