Stinnett Funeral services for Hester E. Stinnett, 79, of Chestertown, Md., will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, January 13, 2000, at First Baptist Church of Simsboro with Ronnie Cathey officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Simsboro. Mrs. Stinnett died Saturday, January 8, 2000, in Heron Point, Chestertown, Md., as a result of heart failure. Mrs. Hester E. (Durrett) Stinnett, a long time resident of Baltimore City, was born and grew up in Ruston. She was the daughter of the late Daniel R. and Hester (Mozelle) Durrett. She attended Louisiana Tech University. In 1945 she married Bernard J. Stinnett while he was stationed in the Army in Louisiana. After his discharge they moved to Baltimore City in 1945 and in 1995 they celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Mrs. Stinnett has a deep-rooted, rich Christian heritage passed onto her from her parents. She followed her religious commitment throughout her life and will be remembered by those she touched with her caring and loving acts of service. Throughout her life Mrs. Stinnett was involved in a number of civic organizations. She served as the PTA president at Montebello Elementary School. She joined the Lakeside Club of Baltimore City Extension Homemakers Council in 1963 where she was an active member for over twenty-five years. She served as the Lakeside Club president for over five years. She served as first vice president of the organization for a number of years. Through her service in the city club she was elected the statewide Parliamentarian for the Maryland State Extension Homemakers: Council; a position she held for over ten years. She was active in all aspects of the Home- makers club, planning programs, conduction meetings, installing club officers and assisting in preparations for the National Homemakers conferences held in Baltimore City. In the 1970's after raising two children, she ventured into the antique and thrift shop business, first in partnership and later independently. She owned a series of shops on Greenmount Avenue in Baltimore. The most successful shop being "Hester's Thrift Shop which she ran until the 1990's. The shop was well known for its wide variety of merchandise and its gracious owner. Survivors include her husband, Bernard J. Stinnett of Chestertown, Md; a son, Daniel E. Stinnett of Galena, Md.; a daughter, Hester A. Stinnett of Philadelphia, Pa; and six grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Richard Durrett, Ricky Durrett, Doug Durrett, David Gullatt, Ted Polman, and Toby Polman. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 12, 2000, from 5 until 8 p.m. at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston.
