                      Mrs. Illa Strickland

Services for Mrs. Illa Strickland, 99, of Ruston, were held Sunday,
January 9, 2000, at Temple Baptist Church in Ruston with Rev.  Dale
Oden officiating.  Burial followed in Greenwood Cemetery under the
direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.

 Mrs. Strickland died Friday, January 7,2000, at her residence
after a lengthy illness.  She was a member of Temple Baptist Church
and a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Larkin Strickland; two
sons, Larkin Strickland, Jr., and McElwayn "Mac" Strickland; a
daughter, Maxine Howard.

Survivors include two granddaughters, Nina Turner of Houston and
Rebecca Gray and husband Ben of Henderson, Texas; one grandson, Dr.
Blake Howard and Katy of Henderson, Texas; one son-in-law,  Harold
Howard; 5 grand grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
