A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM Saturday, April 26, 2014 in the Burhkalter Chapel of Trinity United Methodist Church. Reverend Jerry Hillburn will officiate. Visitation will be 9:00AM until 11:00AM service time Saturday, April 26, 2014 in the Burkhalter Chapel. Pam was born November 23, 1945, at Colby, Kansas, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Beck, Jr. She grew up in Colby, graduating from Colby Community High School in 1963.. She began college at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. Pam married Robert K. Toburen, a Colby classmate, on April 9, 1966. They lived briefly in Wichita, Kansas, until Bob finished his undergraduate degree at Wichita State University, where Pan also attended classes. She moved with Bob back to Lawrence in the fall of 1966, where she went back to school and later worked as secretary while Bob pursued in Ph.D.. Daughter Janet was born October 21, 1970. Pam and Bob moved to Ruston in the fall of 1971, where Bob took a position teaching political science at Louisiana Tech University. Pam spent her early years in Ruston as a housewife and mother. She went back to school and received her B.A. degree from Louisiana Tech in 1981. She worked at various jobs over the years, mostly in the Louisiana Civil Service System. Her longest period of employment was in the Behavioral Science Department at Louisiana Tech. Pam loved art and arts and crafts, especially sharing them with Jan and the neighbor kids earlier on and later with her grandchildren. She had a passion for flowers and plants and spent many hours working in her yard, and she lavished attention on her pets. In later years Pam and Bob spent vacations and summers in Ruidose, New Mexico, where they shared a cabin with her brother-in-l aw and sister-in-law, Nelson and Helen Toburen. Pam was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Ruston. Pam is survived by her husband Bob Toburen; daughter, Janet and son-n-law: Nicholas Mayfield; grandsons: Michael, Nathaniel, and Nicholas Mayfield, all of Ruston; sister, Cathy Ambler and brother-in-law: Allen, of Quincy, Illinois; brother, Rick Beck and sister-in-law Mary, of Newton, Kansas; brother-in-l aw, Nelson Toburen, and sister-in-law, Helen of Pittsburg, Kansas; and brother-in-law, Gary Sloan and wife Pat, of Colby, Kansas. Pam’s family would like to thank Dr. Allen Herbert, DeeDee Cantrell, and the staff at Dr. Heberts office, Dr. David Osafo and his staff, and the care- givers at Northern Louisiana Medical Center and Legacy Hospice, who supported Pam through her long illness. Thanks also go to relatives and friends whose visits and messages were received with gratitude by Pam.
