White "Tobe"; Step Mother Dosie Raley; both buried Colfax, Bethel Cemetery. Died on Wed, 1 Oct 1947. Died at 75 on route to local hospital in the morning. Was struck by a train at 9:45am just S of the Rock Island/Illinois Central crossing in Ruston. White walked S at the station when he stepped onto the tracks. In spite of warnings by the brakeman, he remained on the tracks. He was walking away from the train at the time it struck him. The brakeman attempted to pull him from the track but was unable to do so. It was learned later that White failed to hear the brakeman and other witnesses as he was deaf. The train was a Rock Island switch engine and cars. The train came to a halt within 30 feet from where he was struck. Lived on W. Miss. Ave.. in Ruston and left 4 dau Mrs.. S.L. Valentine, Ruston Mrs.. Tay Hogg, Vienna Mrs. R.H. High, Ruston Miss Dott White, Ruston 2 sons Ben White, Vienna Griffin White, Vienna bro J.A.
