Box 67, Livingston, La. 70754-0067 Bartlett's Tomb can be seen from La. Hwy. 43, traveling northward toward Albany, which intersects from La. Hwy. 42 from Springfield. The George White Road leads off from La. 42 and runs along the side of this tomb. Not much is known about this tomb nor how many people are buried there. It is said that more graves exist around the tomb. No proof has been found of this as yet. Tales of fabulous jewels on the bodies buried in this tomb have often been told. Vandals have broken in the tomb as far back as the early 1930's according to one person interviewed. He claims to have looked in the tomb, one night while rabbit hunting, and saw two skeletons along with the jewels on them. Whatever, the remains of the bodies no longer occupy the tomb. They have long been removed from their resting place. No one knows why or who did it. In personal discussions with Clark Forrest, Jr., Mr. Garfield Kinchen revealed while he was dodging the law, about 1910, that he often slept in the tomb, partiuclarly on cold, rainy nights. This perhaps explains why some people thought the tomb haunted. Souce: Compiled by Aubra Fontenot, Route A-2, Box 7, Springfield, La. 70462, in December 1977.
