C. Durbin. (About a mile north of the Macedonia Church on La. Hwy 1036, on the right going north) The broken headstone of Laura is inscribed: LAURA F. WESTMORELAND, Dau. of G.W. and S.E. Morgan, born August 19, 1867, died January 22, 1881. According to Mr. Durbin, she died giving birth to twins who are buried in an unmarked grave on the south side of her grave. He also said that he was told Laura was the first wife of Willie Westmoreland. At the time of burial, Hog Branch was full and they floated the bodies down on a raft to this burial spot. Mr. Durbin also said that BLIND GRANNY McDONALD is buried just north of the LUCINDA LUVINA GATES grave. It is marked with an iron pipe. Just north of this grave is her son, RUDOLPH McDONALD, who was killed by a neighbor in a feud. He was not originally buried there, but was moved later as the feuding neighbors kept putting scarecrows on the original grave. In addition he said there are several slaves buried there, but none of the graves are marked. Several years ago, he said sinks appeared which indicated some of them. Additionally, there is an Indian mound a little to the north near the bank of the branch. An archeologist did some digging there some time ago, but with little success. There is no fence around the cemetery at this writing. (There is a marriage dated May 1, 1880, St. Helena Parish, of WILLIAM WESTMORELAND to LAURA MORGAN. In the Livingston Parish Census of 1880, V3, page 254, there is a WILLIE, age 22, wife listed as LAURA, age 15. WILLIE E. WESTMORELAND and his wife, ANNIE WHITEHEAD, are buried at the Pine Grove Methodist Cemetery in St. Helena Parish. According to John Green Carver, grandfather of Belford Carver, Willie died in 1932 of a squirrel shot in the lung. Willie E. is the son of George Washington Westmoreland and Adaline Julia Brown. His sister, Mary Elizabeth, is the mother of John Green Carver.) -BEC-
