The Registeris the quarterly publication of the Louisiana Genealogical and Historical Society.The LaGenWeb Archives thanks them for contributing thisinformation.The Smiley-Davidson Cemetery, as it is known locally, is located betweenthe Towns of Frost and Springville (Centerville), south of State Highway42, and near the east bank of Caney Branch.  The cemetery is located,specifically, in the northeast quarter of Section 21, Township 7 South,Range 5 East, Greensburg Land District.  It is shown on the U.S. GeologicalSurvey Map, Springfield Quadrangle, 1965, as the Smiley Cemetery.According to the U.S. Tract Book No. 1A, Page 221, located at the StateLand Office, Susan Bates purchased this land on October 1, 1857 from thefederal government.  Susand Bates was the mother of Catherine Davidson(1836-1885) who married John Andrew Smiley (1819-1877) in 1853.  It isknown that they are both buried in the Smiley Cemetery; however, they donot have headstones.The following names were copies from the headstones on July 30, 1972 byClark Forest, Jr., Holden, Louisiana.  The cemetery also contained severalmarked graves without names and there appeared to be several unmarkedgraves.  The cemetery is well cared for by Mr. James Thomas "Judge" Smiley(born 1891), Route 2, Box 19, Livingston, Louisiana.
