According to the 1880 U.S. Census of Livingston Parish, Family No. 240, Markus was born in Virginia, his age was 65 and his occupation was given as a carpenter. Nancy Porter, a mulatto, was his servant. Elder area residents stated that she was the local midwife. Mrs. Lethia Cooper, born Mar. 17, 1893, said he was the second person to be buried in the cemetery. ***3. Mrs. Golda Forrest Stevens, wife of Charles Joseph Stevens, said he was born January 17, 1895, on an Indian Reservation in Texas and died December 20, 1962, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
