It represents the efforts of the Edward Livingston Historical Association to preserve the memory of all those who are buried within the boundaries of Livingston Parish by listing their names, dates of birth and death, if known, and the cemeteries where they are buried. The completion of this task required the assistance of many people volunteered their time generously. It was truly a labor of love. In the final accounting, over 100 cemeteries were inventoried yielding more than 13,000 names. We are most grateful to all those who participated so willingly. The names of those who inventoried each cemetery are given at the end of each cemetery list. In addition, we wish to recognize and thank Mrs. Barbara Aucoin and Mrs. Gloria Kerns who did the professional typing and indexing and without whose help this project would not have come to pass. Originally, it was envisioned that a map of each cemetery, showing the location of each grave, would accompany the typed lists. But when the typed lists alone exceeded 600 pages, enough for two separate volumes with each being over 300 pages in length, this very desirable feature had to be dropped. This will explain the fact that the lists of names as presented in these volumes reflect their physical layout, thus making them easily adaptable to a mapping index. Otherwise, the names in each cemetery could have been alphabetized. While effort was made to reduce the number of errors, it is humanly impossible to eliminate all of them in a project of this size. Should the reader discover errors and wish to communicate them to us, please do so by writing to ELHA, P.O. Box 67, Livingston, LA 70754-0067. We also welcome any other comments you may wish to make. It is the sincere hope of all of us who worked on this project that it will be of use to genealogists, historians, or anyone else interested in Livingston Parish. Since the parish courthouse burned in 1875, we believe that this publication will be a valuable source of information for the period prior to that year.
