Alice Ott Joel Ott, whose mother is unknown, was born in South Carolina in 1782. He came to Louisiana from Orangeburg, South Carolina, with his father. First he settled on an estate near Mt. Hermon, Louisiana. Joel married Maria Cutrer on July 11, 1814. There were nine children born in this union. His wife died in the early 1830's ; he then married Ascitheca Wallace of Monticello, Mississippi. There were sixteen children born to this union. He then moved to Hog Branch, north of Holden, and settled in Section 5, Township 5 South, Range 5 East where he died in 1879. Joel was buried under a cedar tree behind his house on the bank of Hog Branch. His wife and three of four children are also buried there according to Mrs. Oscar Lard.
