Amilia Cambre Rousseau * May 4, 1902 Parents of Edward, Marvin, Edna Mae and Katie Marie Inscription information copied by Jonnie Guitreau Dorris and Pamela Suzanne Lass, both of Denham Springs, La. In January 1981 this cemetery was enlarged and a new fence was added. The new area has been divided into grave sites and a fee is now being charged for each site. The church refers to it as the St. Williams Catholic Church Cemetery. As of this date, two graves are in Section A. SECTION A #18. Brett Anthony Brady August 30, 1964 July 16, 1981 Son of Gary and Carolyn 109. Sara Roddy Harriett Wilson June 23, 1919 July 3, 1981 Wife of Justin Wilson On May 17, 1824, Vincent Scivicque donated property for a cemetery which is located in the heart of Port Vincent next to the Catholic Church. In my early years, between 1930 and 1940, there were many cypress wood crosses marking graves throughout the Port Vincent Cemetery. Many of these, over the years, have disappeared. In my effort to identify these now "unmarked" and some "unlocated" grave sites, I spent many hours with the relatives and acquaintances of those known to be interred there. Some of the long term residents were able to shed light on many of the actual events from their personal experience. Willie Marchand (son of Edna Nickens and Joseph Marchand) recalled that he had two brothers buried in the cemetery prior to 1910. Walter Cambre knew that as a result of a 1918 flu epidemic that his father (Ramie Felix Cambre) lost six brothers. All of these were buried in the Port Vincent Cemetery. The most unusual recollection was one of those of Mrs. Katie Cambre Jenks, a senior citizen with a remarkable memory. Mrs. Jenks (Aunt Katie) even recalled that two negro slaves were also buried there. Despite an abundance of information, the data reflected here concerning full names, exact birth and death dates, relatives of the deceased, as well as, "unmarked" or "unlocated" grave sites was obtained directly from known relatives living at that time of interment. When no eyewitness relatives are available, information obtained from descendents was verified through church records, other actual witnesses, and available documentation.
