Reprinted by permission. Dedicated to the memory of Reuben Cooper and Raymond Riggs. FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF DENHAM SPRINGS, according to church records, was organized in May, 1900 after a group of dedicated Christians heard an inspiring message by the Rev. H.T. Comish. According to an instrument of conveyance recorded in the Livingston Parish records, George L. Minton sold the Denham Springs Baptist Church" one acre which is the site of the present church building. A wooden structure built on the one-acre site was the first meeting place and a community landmark. It was ready for services by the winter of 1900. The original structure was quickly outgrown, and in 1928, plans were made to build a three-story brick sanctuary at a cost of $24,000. Later, one a half acres adjacent to the original property were purchased at a cost of $13,000. Educational buildings and two neighboring lots were bought in recent years, and in 1972 the present sanctuary was completed and dedicated. The church now has a membership of about 1,500. --- James E.
