FRIENDSHIP METHODIST CHURCH Established around 1850 as a circuit-rider church on a site one-half mile from the Springfield Road and Walker Road crossing. Some of the charter members included Sibley, Graham, Vickers, McDowell, Covington, and Erwin family members. Reportedly, during the Civil War, the church members served cornbread and milk to Confederate soldiers who slept in the church while passing through the area. The church was moved to J.P. Covington's land in 1870, and in 1905 it moved to its present site on La. Hwy. 447 north of Walker, on land donated by George Hall, Sr. (1) -- Mrs. Willie Higginbotham. ------------ (1) Information obtained from Mrs. Marie Wise, church clerk, by Mrs. Willie Higginbotham. * * *
