Reprinted by permission. Dedicated to the memory of Reuben Cooper and Raymond Riggs. HEBRON BAPTIST CHURCH, the oldest surviving Baptist church in Livingston Parish, observed its 139th anniversary in May, 1976. Situated south of Denham Springs, the church was constituted on the fourth Saturday in April, 1837 with David D. Felps, Thomas M. Bond, Henry L. Achord, Larkin Story, William McMurray, Catherine Achord and Rebecca Bond as charter members. In 1859 a new site was selected for a building. It was on the land of William Vincent, west of Grays Creek and near the McCauley house. Four acres of land were deeded to the church, the same property where the present church is today. Just before the Civil War, a new frame structure was erected on the site where the present buildings are located. In 1918 the church decided to build still another new and larger building, which was erected beside the old building. This 1918 structure was used until 1955, when the present brick sanctuary was built. In 1965, the church built a new and larger educational building. The present church property consists of approximately 18 acres. (1) --- James E. Minton ------------- (1) History of the Eastern La.
