Macedonia Baptist Church (white), Livingston Parish, Louisiana File prepared by D.N. Pardue ********************************************** Copyright. Reprinted by permission. Dedicated to the memory of Reuben Cooper and Raymond Riggs. MACEDONIA BAPTIST CHURCH, located on the gravel portion of La. Hwy. 1036 north of Holden, was organized in 1856, and its sanctuary, built in 1898, is the oldest Baptist church building in Livingston Parish. The present Macedonia building is situated on land originally obtained by G.W. Westmoreland from the state in 1861 (a portion of Section 21, T5S-R5E), and Westmoreland donated six plus acres. Westmoreland Branch converges with Hog Branch in Section 21 on land claimed by G.W. Westmoreland, and it was undoubtedly named for him. The church is a unique, primitive wood-frame building which has never had a coat of paint. It still has hard-back wooden pews, is heated by a wood heater, and has no indoor plumbing. Drinking water is obtained from a nearby groundwater spring. -- Clark Forrest, Jr. * * * * *
