Vol. 2, December 1977 WAR OF 1812 ACT OF FEBRUARY 14, 1874 BRIEF OF CLAIM FOR A WIDOW'S PENSION In the case of Mary Brignac, widow of Alexander Brignac, of Captain William Watson Company, Reg't. La. Mil., Residence, Livingston Parish, Louisiana Post Office Address, Bayou Barbary, Livingston Parish, Louisiana. Soldier enlisted December 28, 1814, Discharged _________. Declaration and identification in due form filed December 23, 1873. SERVICE FOR SIXTY DAYS SHOWN AS FOLLOWS: "B.L. Div. Reporte" Service by two witnesses from about 28th day of Dec. 1814, for two months and 17 days. Total service, 2 month & 17 days. Soldier died July 1922, date and fact established by the Declaration and report from B.L. Div. "Warrant" issued to widow". Continued widowhood since his death established by testimony of Sylvian Brignac and James Vickner. Married to soldier prior to February 17, 1815, established by report from B.L. Div. "Marriage by two witnesses who were present at ceremony, November 27, 1811" and affidavit of Sylvian Brignac and James Vickner, now on file. Maiden name of claimant was "MARY CONRAD". Date of marriage now alleged September 1810. Oath to support the Constitution of the United States subscribed. Non-receipt of pension declared. Loyalty established by affidavits of L.P. Lobell and A. Lobell. Their credibility certified by W.C. Opdenmeyer. Admitted February 18, 1874, to a pension of eight dollars per month, from February 14, 1871. s/A.F. Kingsley Examiner Approved: s/James A. Fisher Reviewer Source: Copied by Clark Forrest, Jr., from the National Archives, Washington, D.C. 20408 on June 9, 1976 State of Louisiana Parish of Livingston On this the 15th day of December 1873, personally appeared before me a Clerk of Court of Record in and for the Parish and State aforesaid SYLVAIN BRIGNAC age 69 years, and JAMES VICKNER aged 75 years, residing at French Settlement, Parish of Livingston and State of Louisiana, who being by me duly sworn according to law depose and say that they know from their own personal knowledge that the said Alexander Brignac and mary Conrad were married by a Catholic Priest (name forgotten) at St. Michael Church in the Parish of St. James, on or about September 1810, and that from that time until the death of the said Alexander Brignac, they lived together as man and wife and were so recognized in the community in which they resided. That the said Alexander Brignac died at his plantation in the Parish of Livingston and State of Louisiana on or about July 1822, and that he is the identical Alexander Brignac who was a soldier in the War of 1812, that the said Mary Brignac has remained his widow, and that she is the identical who makes this application for Pension under the Act of Feb. 14, 1871. That their knowledge of these facts are derived from having been raised together and having lived on same plantation while children, and their constant intimate acquaintance with the claimant and her disceased husband, and that they have no interest in this claim. witness A.
