Vol. 6, December 1981 Page 21 The Yankess took Pass Manchac the 17 June 1863 with ammunitions cannons the soldiers used the route on the edge of the lake passing thru Bling (Blind) River with their guns and baggage, leaving provisions and supplies on the points and isles in route. Baton Rouge was taken 5 August 1862 by the Yankees. On the 17th December the Confederates pushed the Yankees back to Baton Rouge. The Yankees took the City of New Orleans the 26 April 1862. The Yankees took Madisonville 28 July 1862. The Battle of Ponchatoula 15 Sept. 1862. The Yankees came up the Amite River the 8th January 1863. 80 in number, they also went to Port Vincent where shots were fired. The Yankees with 150 to 200 men attacked the camp at Doyle the 25 July. The picket and stake out guards took to the hills and ran for 12 miles before 25 or more brave soldiers defended their cause about 24 miles from Baton Rouge. Two horses were killed, the Yankees took the saddles even in pursuit. Doyle also had a pleasure horse (either taken from the yankees or taken from Doyle). The same day Doyle took 2 prisoners, they were deserters. Doyle's camp is on the route between Baton Rouge and Springfield. The Yankees had 3 soldiers killed and 13 -----. Officer Doyale took as prisoner (Loupe). The 5 August 1864 John S. Scot. Capt. Doyale raided the Yankees pickets on hi hibatation with artillary and (on foot).
