Three families joined a few settlers along the Amite Rivver. They were the families of Joseph Lambert, Paul Guitreau and Alexandre Brignac of whom I shall write. Other related families came to the Amite River Colony called La Cote and by eighteen hundred and ten, starting at Bayou King George to Bayou Collyell were the following settlers: Jacob Fauser married to Scholastic Villic Joseph Fauser married to Anastasic Villar Joseph Heard married to Harriet Norton J.B. Marie Zelina is a legend in the Lambert family. She is said to have lived to be a hundred years old. In checking the St. Joseph Church records, I found this entry - Marie Augelina Lambert nee 1808 La plus vielle femme de la Paroisse. Buried 13 September 1906. Her exact age at the time of death, 99 years, 11 months and 2 days. She was buried over her mother's grave (Theotice Lambert nee Vickner) in the "Vieux Cemetiere". She has no marker. She is said to have been able to speak German, French, Spanish, English and some Indian languages. ("La langue et les Cri des Choctaw") 7 - JEAN CYPRIEN (SYMPHORIEN) LAMBERT Born 10 December 1808. Mirza is deceased by 1870 census. Joseph Lambert is deceased by February 8, 1821. His succession in St. Helena Parish Court House list three (3) major children and three (3) minor children. Joseph is buried in the Old French Settlement Cemetery. His grave is to the left of Theotiste Lambert nee Vickner, the oldest marker in the cemetery. Joseph's grave has no marker, only an iron cross. Theotiste Vickner Lambert has the oldest headstone in the Old French Settlement Cemetery. The inscription reads: Theotiste Lambert nee Vickner, Born August 19, 1784, Died January 21, 1857 There is an error in the date of birth. Theotiste was baptized in St. John the Baptist Church, Baptismal Book I, Page 34a, 23 August 1777 and probably born a short time before this date. Using the 1784 date, she would have been only 10 years old when she married Joseph, February 6, 1794. Using the 1777 date, she would have been 17 years old which is probably right. (Note: Joseph Lambert was buried in teh cemetery in 1821. We know the cemetery is older than this date). PAUL GUITREAU - GUIDROZ was born in New Orleans, Louisiana about 1770. There are no records of his birth because of the fire that destroyed the early recored of the St. Louis Cathedral. Paul was the son of Abraham Guidroz and Catherine Buquoy. Paul married Jospehine Vickner 28 April 1802, St. Ann's Church, Morganza, Louisiana. There were residents of False River, Pointe Coupee Parish. The marriage made legitimate their three children, Paul age of 7 years, Charlotte age of 4 years and Artimise age of 2 years. Josephine Vickner born 19 March 1775. Daughter of Nicolas Vickner and Apaline Helfre. Children of Paul and Josephine: 1-Paul II, born 1794 2-Charlotte, born 1798 3-Artimise, born 1800 4-Nicolas, born November 1804, baptized 24 November 1805 5-Marcelin, born 6 December 1806, baptized 14 June 1807 6-Marie, born 26 July 1809, baptized January 1810 Nicolas, Marcelin and Marie were baptized in St. John Baptist Church, Edgard, Louisiana. Paul Guitreau is deceased by 1810. He had settled his family a la Cote in 1808. In 1810 Josephine signs the land claim certificate as the widow of Paul who had cleared the land of four arpents front - this is in Section 42 where the Town Hall is today.
