Colton Creek, Livingston Parish, Louisiana File prepared by D.N. Pardue ********************************************** Copyright. All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From the book entitled "The Free State - A History and Place-Names Study of Livingston Parish" by the members of the Livingston Parish American Revolution Bicentennial Committee in cooperation with the Livingston Parish Police Jury and the Louisiana American Revolution Bicentennial Commission, 1976. Reprinted by permission. Dedicated to the memory of Reuben Cooper and Raymond Riggs. COLTON CREEK has its origin in Section 38, T6S-R3E and flows in a south- westerly direction until it converges with the Amite River in Section 25, T6S-R2E at Denham Springs. In between its headwaters and its confluence with the Amite, the creek flows through Section 43, T6S-R3E and Section 47, T6S-R2E which were originally claimed by Robert Colton. The original claims maps in the State Land Office spell Colton's name as "Cotton," but other maps show this was an error on the part of the surveyors. --- James Earl Minton * * *
