Comfort Swamp, Livingston Parish, Louisiana File prepared by D.N. Pardue ********************************************** Copyright. All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From the book entitled "The Free State - A History and Place-Names Study of Livingston Parish" by the members of the Livingston Parish American Revolution Bicentennial Committee in cooperation with the Livingston Parish Police Jury and the Louisiana American Revolution Bicentennial Commission, 1976. Reprinted by permission. Dedicated to the memory of Reuben Cooper and Raymond Riggs. COMFORT SWAMP is immediately south of the Castle Swamp in Section 65, T7S-R2E and Section 45, T7S-R3E. A man named Comfort owned land and had a house on the bluff overlooking the Amite around 1880. Huge live oaks and a few bricks mark the spot today. The name is familiar enough that a local progressive bluegrass music group has taken the name. ---Mrs. Anita Durand Buess * * *
