IMPASSABLE SWAMP On an old survey map of the land district east of the Island of New Orleans and west of Pearl River, is an area labeled "Im- passable Swamp." This large swamp on the old map of 1821 is south of Tickfaw River and comprised about twelve sections of boggy land with parts of eight sections bordering Lake Maurepas to form the shoreline. According to our present day map, the boundaries along the shores of Lake Maurepas have changed somewhat, leaving less swamp to be seen. However, through the years this great big beautiful swamp has not been impassable to the hunters, fishermen, lumbermen and trappers. Moreover, it is fast becoming a part of Livingston Parish's playground with modern weekend camps and facilities which are constructed on ground that has been built up from the soil of the drainage canals. -- Lucille Cooper * * * * *
