Maurepas Cemetery, Livingston Parish, Louisiana File prepared by D.N. Pardue ********************************************** Copyright. Reprinted by permission. Dedicated to the memory of Reuben Cooper and Raymond Riggs. MAUREPAS CEMETERY, approximately one mile west of Maurepas High School on La. Hwy. 22, is on four acres of land purchased in 1904 from John D. Decker by John E. Martin and Willie Naubacher, representing the community. How- ever, some of the graves indicate the cemetery was established prior to 1904. Through the years the public took care of their own family graves, but eventually as the cemetery grew in size and families started moving away, caretakers were chosen. Some of the past caretakers included Joe Jones and Euless Sanchez, while Elga Brignac is the present caretaker. Donations from the public are used for the upkeep of the cemetery. In September, 1975, concerned members of the community met and organized a board of directors to handle the affairs of the cemetery. Improvements are being made under its direction. -- Paulette Richardson * * * * *
