McLin Swamp, Livingston Parish, Louisiana File prepared by D.N. Pardue ********************************************** Copyright. All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From the book entitled "The Free State - A History and Place-Names Study of Livingston Parish" by the members of the Livingston Parish American Revolution Bicentennial Committee in cooperation with the Livingston Parish Police Jury and the Louisiana American Revolution Bicentennial Commission, 1976. Reprinted by permission. Dedicated to the memory of Reuben Cooper and Raymond Riggs. MCLIN SWAMP, according to Mrs. Freddie Stewart Kinchen, a life-long resident of the north Albany area, was named for "Hez" McLin (probably Hezekiah). Mrs. Kinchen said that McLin Swamp is located south of Oscar Kinchen's present home, which would put it in Section 3, T6S-R6E. Although a swampy area is shown in the section on both the 1940 Albany Quadrangle Map and the 1959 Amite Quadrangle Map, it is not identified by name. ---Clark Forrest, Jr. * * * * *
