Parker Branch, Livingston Parish, Louisiana File prepared by D.N. Pardue ********************************************** Copyright. Reprinted by permission. Dedicated to the memory of Reuben Cooper and Raymond Riggs. PARKER BRANCH was probably named for Jim Parker, according to Warren Stewart, former president of the Livingston Parish Police Jury and a life-long resident of the area. (1) Jim Parker and his son, Daniel, lived near Parker Swamp, which is located northwest of Albany and north of the CCC Road above Ed Thompson's house. The bulk of Parker Swamp is located in the west one-half of Section 10, T6S-R6E. The swamp originates, however, near the corner of Sections 3, 4, 9, and 10 where the elevation is 56 feet above sea level. Parker Swamp is the initial drainage basin for Parker Branch, and is about 1.5 miles in length. The branch channel becomes definite east of the Blood River Baptist Church (Section 15) where the dredged channel begins, and it converges with Blood River in Section 27. Mr. Stewart stated that he doubted if parker, a laborer, ever owned any land, and research at the State Land Office has failed to turn up any reference to Parkers purchasing government land. ---Clark Forrest, Jr. ------------ (1) Personal interview with Warren Stewart by Clark Forrest, Jr. on Feb. 13, 1972. * * * * *
