Pea Ridge, Livingston Parish, Louisiana File prepared by D.N. Pardue ********************************************** Copyright. Reprinted by permission. Dedicated to the memory of Reuben Cooper and Raymond Riggs. PEA RIDGE is the local name for the Starns Road. During the Depression of the 1930's, everyone on the Starns Road had a patch of field peas. There was not much else to eat. Those whom Mr. and Mrs. Wright "Bob" Morgan recalled as having pea patches included Henry Stewart, Sr., Warren Stewart, Calvin O'Nellion, Howard Watkins, John Raney, Harrison Stewart, Sam Roberts, Virgil Glascock, and George Wells. The Morgans thought that Sam Roberts was the first person to refer to the Starns Road as Pea Ridge. They also recalled the time when there were only three houses on the Starns Road. At that time, the first house encountered coming from Albany, was owned by Uriah Hayden, the second by (James K.) Polk Glascock, and the third by "Marge" Stewart. -- Clark Forrest, Jr. * * * * *
