STEWART BRANCH is located three miles north of Holden on the east side 

of the Tickfaw River, of which it is a tributary.  It is probably named

for the Stewart family, although there are no land records for them for 

the area adjacent to Stewart Branch.  It may be that the family were

squatters on the land before it was purchased by the large timber companies.
