Reprinted by permission. Dedicated to the memory of Reuben Cooper and Raymond Riggs. TRADING WOLF without any doubt, was a trading post of early date. It is mentioned as being near the mouth of the Tickfaw River on lake shore of Lake Maurepas. Alexander Bookter claimed 1,000 arpents in the new settle- ment of Santa Helena on the border of Natalbany River, eight miles more or less above the entrance of Tickfaw River and about eleven miles from the waters of Lake Maurepas, at a place commonly called Trading Wolf on Nov. 12, 1803. Township 8 South, Range 7 East and Section 14 is the site location that is given for the trading post. (1) -- Lucille Cooper --------- (1) Exhibit of Private Land Claims, State of La.
