Bourgeois Landing Post Office, Livingston Parish, Louisiana File prepared by D.N. Pardue ********************************************** Copyright. Reprinted by permission. Dedicated to the memory of Reuben Cooper and Raymond Riggs. BOURGEOIS LANDING POST OFFICE was established on Sept. 22, 1875 and was discontinued on April 11, 1878. Three months later, July 25, 1878, the Whitehall post office was established, having as its postmaster John A. Porter, the first and only postmaster of Bourgeois Landing. Bourgeois Landing no doubt owes its name to one of the early settlers of the same name. One S. LeBourgeois is mentioned in the June8, 1875 minutes of the Livingston Parish Police July. (Minute Book 1, page 10). Poster, LeBourgeois and A.C. Miller contracted to lay out roads in the Whitehall area, according to the minutes. --- Clark Forrest, Jr. -----------------
