She was born Sept 11, 2009 in Tylertown, MS. She was a former resident of Watson and most recently a resident at Flannery Oaks Guest House. Mrs. Bernard opened the first licensed childcare center in Baton Rouge in the early 1950s where she lovingly cared for many children. She was also a licensed insurance agent for many years. She was a member of Live Oak United Methodist Church in Watson where she loved to share her cooking with her prayer and share group. Visitation was held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East in Baton Rouge on Sunday. Visitation was also held at Bluff Springs Baptist Church in Magnolia MS until the funeral service with interment in William Allen Cemetery. She is survived by two sisters, two brothers and sisters-in-law, three daughters and two sons-in-law, two sons and a daughter-in-law, 13 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husbands, Ellison McKay, Bonnie Brown Simmons, and Albert Bernard; her parents, Lewis Laney Pope and Lois Martina Ellzey Pope; a son Paul Randolph Simmons; a daughter, Paula Antoinette Simmons; a grandson, Webster Delry Sequin, Jr.; a sister and brother-in-law; Maxine and Bobby Boyd; two brothers, Nelson Pope and Everette Pope; a son-in-law, Ronald R. Ruegg; and two brothers-in-law, Lloyd Roberts and Eugene Rhodus.
