He was a native of Stamps AK and a longtime resident of Springfield. He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War and was retired as an assistant field foreman with Chevron after 39 years of employment. He was a longtime member and Deacon of Springfield First Baptist Church and an avid fisherman. Visitation was held at Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home in Baptist on Friday, Feb 12, 2010 and resumed on Saturday, Feb 13, 2010 until the funeral service in the funeral home chapel with interment in Springfield Cemetery in Springfield. His loving and devoted wife of 58 years, three sons and daughters-in-law, a daughter and son-in-law, 12 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, four great- grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews survives him. Preceding him in death were his parents, William Hayden and Veda Allen Burchfield; two brothers and three sisters.
