Clara was born Sept. 2, 1923, in Atlanta, GA and graduated from Fulton High School in Atlanta in 1942 and Georgia Baptist School of Nursing in 1945. She worked as a registered nurse until the early 1980s. She was a member of the Mary Shirley McGuire chapter of the DAR and Corinth Presbyterian church while living in Plano. The daughter of a Baptist minister, Clara's father gave her the nickname "Love". Clara modeled love and compassion and spent her life caring for others. She was a dedicated mother and grandmother, shaping her children's values and being involved in their activities. Clara's grandchildren were the love of her life; She was always beautiful and vibrant in their eyes. Clara never missed sending cards and writing e-mails as she valued keeping in touch with friends. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Plano, Texas, on March 28, 2009, at 11 a.m. Visitation with family will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Her son and daughter-in-law; daughter and son-in-law, six grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends survive her Her parents, Rev. and Mrs. W.S. Pruitt; three sisters, Naomi and Beatrice Pruitt and Rattie Merrick; three brothers, Gordon Spencer and Woodrow Pruitt and her husband William W. Burress preceded Clara in death. Special thanks to Dr. Kurt Graves for his kindness and exceptional medical care over the years. The family recognizes Clarity Hospice nurses Holly and Barry, aide Gwen, Chaplain Gordon Atwell and Home Instead sitter, Tonya. Their conversation and kindness made each day brighter. Clara's love of life and faith in God carried her through the recent valley and peacefully into the arms of Jesus. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Baptist Children's Home or a charity of your choice.
